Adoption Options is an inclusive, non-profit adoption agency dedicated to enriching the lives of children, youth and families. We provide education, placement services, counseling and support for all members of the adoption community. The staff and Board of Directors at Adoption Options is actively working as a team to uphold the company’s stated values of Integrity, Compassion, Respect, Inclusion, Education, and Professionalism in all aspects of the organization. Within Adoption Options, the Fostering Healthy Futures® (FHF-P) Program is an evidence-based preventive intervention for preadolescent children (ages 9-11) who have current or previous child welfare involvement due to one or more Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs). These ACEs could include the experience of maltreatment, out-of-home placement, housing instability, violence exposure, and parental substance use, severe mental illness, or incarceration. The 30-week program consists of weekly mentoring and a prosocial skills group to promote healthy adolescent development and reduce trauma-related behaviors.

​Position Responsibilities:
  • Evening availability Tuesday and Wednesday evenings from 4:00-8:00 p.m.
  • ​Helps facilitate 1-3 manualized groups for 9 preadolescent children with the group supervisor, which includes facilitation of the manualized curriculum, adjusting activities to meet individual group members’ needs and abilities, attending to group processes, and utilizing effective group management techniques (2-3 hours)
  • Prepare for group facilitation, including reviewing the manualized curriculum and watching training videos (1 hour)
  • Prepare group room/materials, including printing handouts, making posters, and other tasks needed for group each week (1-2 hours)
  • Attend skills group training meeting with fellow intern (1 hour)
  • Complete weekly documentation and program evaluations (1-2 hours)
  • Support by picking up dinner and/or transporting children on facilitation evening.
  • Plan and facilitate a mentoring visit with the child you mentor (2-4 hours)
  • Transport the child you mentor to and from skills group one night per week – Tuesday or Wednesday evening from 4:00-8:00 p.m. (3-4 hours per week)
  • Attend group supervision with other field placement interns - mentors attend group supervision while children attend skills groups (1 hour per week)
  • Attend virtual or in-person individual supervision with the intern supervisor each week (1 hour per week)
  • Attend seminar facilitated by AO staff or guest speaker each week (1 hour per week)
  • Attend a bi-weekly administrative meeting (1 hour every other week)
  • Attend a bi-weekly SPARKS meeting with the other mentors and program supervisors (1 hour every other week)
  • Spend the remaining time advocating for children, connecting children and families with resources in their communities, planning therapeutic mentoring activities, meeting with collateral adults, and writing progress notes.
